School Nurse

Kittitas, WA

Primary Function: Enhance the safety and educational potential of students by carrying out necessary nursing procedures and interventions within the scope of practice for an RN in the school setting and as indicated by students’ health plans and the school district’s policies and procedures. Provide support to and work in partnership with the District Staff. Understand and abide by Kittitas School District Policy, RCW/WAC related to student and school health, Washington State Nurse Practice Act. Travel to and from various district sites to provide nursing services based on changes in student health conditions and in response to district Health Services staffing requirements.

Qualifications: Possess and maintain a current Washington State Registered Nurse (RN) license. Possess and maintain a current Washington State Driver’s license and vehicle insurance.

Ability to operate a computer and word processing software and to learn to operate the school district’s database as well as necessary state websites and databases. Ability to maintain electronic and paper charting and medical records.

Understanding of Nurse Practice Act. Competence in general nursing practice includes but is not limited to diabetic care management, tube feeding, urinary catheterization, basic trach care, universal precautions, containment of blood, and disposal of sharps.

School district, public health, and community health experience preferred.

Possess experience working with children that are medically fragile, medically complex, or have health concerns.

Commitment to the school health program, and a desire to be a role model to and interact positively with students.

Ability to communicate effectively and relate appropriately with students, parents, and staff members in a professional and positive manner.

Mt. Baker School District

LPN

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assists District Registered Nurse and building secretaries with ensuring district compliance with mandated school immunization regulations; responds to directives from the local Health Department, identifying staff and students at risk for communicable diseases; provides assistance with new student registration; obtains health histories and immunization records from parents; reviews records and computer report for compliance. Enters health information on student cumulative health record.
• Performs medical treatments for students according to procedure, as needed, including: nebulizer treatments, finger-stick for blood glucose monitoring; administration of insulin; clean intermittent catheterization; assists students with toileting or personal hygiene needs; administers tube feeding; administers oxygen; attends to respirator needs i.e. suctioning.
• Administers routine and emergency medication according to district policy and state law under the direction of the District Registered Nurse.
• Provides first aid care of ill and injured; identifies head lice; screens individuals according to procedure;
• Maintains confidentiality;
• Identifies students with emergency medical concerns, educating appropriate staff in the proper medical procedures to follow in an emergency.
• Collaborates with other health care professionals or community agencies involved with the care of the student;
• May participate in home visits to facilitate family involvement in the school health care plan for the student;
• Promotes a safe and healthy school environment;
• Presents health related information to classroom, staff and parents;
• Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School graduate or equivalent;
• Current active Washington State License Practical Nurse license;
• Current First Aid / APR / AED certification;
• Knowledge of Skyward health records software preferred;
• Training or experience in child development, pediatrics and public health nursing desirable

Regional School Nurse Toutle Lake

General Responsibilities: Reporting directly to the Health Services Manager, the Regional School Nurse implements, manages and delivers school health services to school districts and /or agencies.  The school nurse scope of practice is defined by law and regulation and professional school nursing standards.

Salary:
The full salary range for this position is $41.55 – $50.56 per hour*. Offers are made at the beginning of the range.

*As of 09/01/2024, the salary range will be $41.55 – $50.56

Assignment:
This position is 10.5 hrs/wk, school year schedule and will serve the Toutle Lake School District.
This position may have potential for additional hours. 

Director of Health Services

Toppenish, WA

Overview of Position

Monitor and evaluate health services for financial effectiveness, operational efficiency and capacity to meet student health needs; direct the development and implementation of health services, systems standards, programs, policies and procedures. Oversee the provision of licensed healthcare provider services; coordinate and provide the screening examination, diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions, illnesses and injuries in individuals; ensure proper and accurate identification of and response to medical and psychological emergencies. Responsible for overseeing and coordinating all initiatives related to student health, substance abuse prevention and intervention within the school community. Responsible for developing and implementing programs that address chemical dependency and support services to
students.

Qualifications

Must possess a current Washington State Department of Health RN License, NPI # and a Certification in Chemical
Dependency or equivalent. REQUIRED
• Registered Nurse Credential. REQUIRED
• At least 1 year ofsuccessful professional experience.
• Must possess a valid Washington State Driver’s License. REQUIRED
• Must be able to meet the Toppenish School District requirements to transport students.
• Must possess current First Aid and CPR cards.

Regional School Nurse Castle Rock School District

This position is 31.5 hrs/wk, school year schedule and will serve the Castle Rock School District. Reporting directly to the Health Services Manager, the Regional School Nurse implements, manages and delivers school health services to school districts and /or agencies. The school nurse scope of practice is defined by law and regulation and professional school nursing standards.

The full salary range for this position is $40.07- $48.75 per hour. Offers are made at the beginning of the range.*As of 09/01/2024, the salary range will be $41.55 – $50.56

Minimum Qualifications:
Valid Washington State registered nurse (RN) license.
Experience in pediatrics and willingness to delegate care in a school setting.
Current CPR/1st aid certification.
Experience in the health care of school age children.

Substitute Nurse

Thorp, WA

A. Administers first aid, medication and specialized medical treatment for the purpose of providing appropriate
care for ill, medically fragile and/or injured students.
B. Maintains student medication and corresponding records, receipts in new medications, contacts
parents when necessary, notifies the district nurse of medication changes.
C. Collaborates with parents, students, health care providers, and/or other agencies for the purpose of providing
appropriate treatments, securing information and complying with the law.
D. Provide care for students with special physical needs as needed after receiving training and under the direction
of the district nurse (including, but not limited to: catheterization, insulin administration, and gastrostomy tube
feedings).
E. Maintains and implements Emergency and Individual Health care plans as directed by physicians.
F. Reports incidents to administration, CPS, or proper authorities for incidents such as bullying, intentional injuries

I. Acts as a resource person for school office personnel who are responsible for administering emergency first aid
treatment.
J. Participates in staffing for students as part of the building team.
K. Collaborates with the Lead School District Nurse to provide wrap around services for students.
L. Reports contagious diseases to local public health authorities for the purpose of minimizing infection and
complying with the law.
M. Administer Rapid COVID tests.
